St. Paul Preschool Update January 2023

St. Paul Lutheran Preschool has been very blessed this year with a wonderful group of children in both the Pre-3 and Pre-4 classes. They’re all kind, caring and eager to come to school to play with their friends and learn about Christ!

In the fall we focused on Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Moses, and the Nativity Story. They made an earth out of torn paper along with their handprints to show that God created everything, including themselves! The children used red tape to make a candy cane Letter J for Jesus and learned that candy canes are made to look like a shepherd’s staff. Jesus, their shepherd, was born for them!

After two years of keeping our distance during the winter months, St. Paul was able to host their annual “Unwrapping the Manger” Christmas Program on December 14th in the sanctuary. Pastor shared the Gospel message and lead the children through the program. The preschoolers joyfully sang, “Away in a Manger”, the hymn “Come on and Ring Those Bells”, “In a Little Stable” and many others. They did an outstanding job as it was their very first time in front of an audience!

As we come into the New Year, we will teach values that focus on being kind, good choices, feelings, learning how to pray, and Jesus’ miracles. January 23rd-27th we will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week! The theme for 2023 is “Making Disciples for Life”. There will be a planned theme for each day, including “Disciples” and “Families”.

Pastor Don, Mrs. Sanchez, Mrs. Burda and I feel very blessed to serve as role models in faith by teaching these young children how to be “Disciples for Life”. I give thanks to God for our wonderful staff and congregation and for the parents of these precious gifts from God, the children.

St. Paul Lutheran Church and Preschool has been like a second home for John and I and our family over the last 13 years. When our family first arrived in Sherwood, summer of 2009, I will never forget driving around the neighborhoods of Sherwood and we saw a sign in a yard for “St. Paul Lutheran School Enroll Now”. I asked John to stop the car and go knock on their door and ask where this church was located. John did go knock and Jeff Shipman was who opened the door!! From that moment on we knew St. Paul would be our church. That summer we began attending the church services in the grove and the rest is history.

The St. Paul community support and the love of God have been an enormous source of comfort and relief for the Prehm Family during these past 13 years.

Unfortunately, our time here in Oregon is coming to an end and we will begin a new adventure the end of September in Chicago, Illinois. As many of you know, John has been working in Chicago the past 20 months and has been blessed with such a great opportunity to share his gift and knowledge of finance in Health Care.

John and I know we can never find another church family as close and loving as this one, but we believe God has a plan for us and that we will continue to serve out His plan faithfully, even in Chicago!

We want to thank Pastor Don, Pastor Rich and Pastor Walt for their inspiration and love for our family. I want to thank all of you for your unending love and support for me during my time as your Preschool Teacher at St. Paul Lutheran Preschool these past 10 years. We will truly miss you all, and we will keep you and St. Paul Lutheran Church and Preschool in Sherwood, Oregon in our prayers.

Love,

The Prehm Family

The Theme “IN ALL THINGS …” for the 2021-2022 Preschool year, is also the same theme for the National Youth Gathering this summer!

The Preschool will begin the New Year 2022 celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week, January 24th – 28th. NLSW provides our network of more than 1,800 LCMS preschools, elementary schools, and high schools with the opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in Lutheran Schools.

During the week of January 24th, St. Paul Lutheran Preschool will celebrate “Days of Creation” based on this year’s theme:

“In All Things” Colossians 1:15-20

Monday – Jesus

Tuesday – Creation

Wednesday – Children

Thursday – Church

Fun Day Friday – Community

I give thanks to God and celebrate the many opportunities, that we as a congregation have and continue to have in the new year, to share Jesus with our preschool parents’ most precious gift: his or her little child.

Joyfully,

Kathy Prehm
